Hawaii's Kilauea volcano continued to erupt as the month of May drew to a close, engulfing the island in massive clouds of ash while lava flows forced mass evacuations.

The aerial footage, shot on May 22, shows shrouds of smoke billowing from the volcano's craters. Lava fountains can also be seen clearly.

"Kilauea has been active and almost continuously erupting since its last eruption in 1983. Earthquakes continue to hit the island; and a few weeks ago several broke the internal structure of the volcano," the filmer, a Hawaii native, told Newsflare. "This has forced the pressure up and out from the earths surface which make fissures that open up."

Note: Music is royalty free
