Migrants Stranded Aboard Rescue Ship Head for Port in Valencia, Spain

<p>Over 600 migrants, rescued from the sea off Libya on June 9 by the SOS Mediterranee vessel Aquarius, are headed to Valencia, Spain, on June 12, after Italian authorities refused to allow ship to land in Italy for several days.</p><p>In a tweet</a> on June 11, Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, said the migrants were welcome at the Port of Valencia.</p><p>Half the 629 migrants were transferred onto two Italian ships and all three are expected to reach the Port of Valencia in approximately three days time, according to a press release</a> from SOS Mediterranee.</p><p>In the days prior, MSF Sea said</a> the Aquarius was overcrowded and SOS Mediterranee said</a> they received food aid and supplies from the Maltese Navy and Italian Coast Guard.
