Migrants Board Italian Coast Guard Vessels for Transfer to Valencia

<p>More than 600 migrants, rescued from the sea off Libya on June 9 by the SOS Mediterranee vessel Aquarius, were headed to Valencia, Spain, on June 12, after Italian authorities refused to allow the ship to land for several days.</p><p>In a tweet</a> on June 11, Pedro Sanchez, Spain’s new prime minister, said the migrants were welcome at the Port of Valencia.</p><p>About half of the 629 migrants were transferred to two Italian ships, and all three vessels were expected to reach Valencia by June 15, according to a press release</a> from SOS Mediterranee.</p><p>In the days prior, MSF Sea said</a> the Aquarius was overcrowded.
