This is the heart-stopping moment a lizard launches an attack on a teenager who was filming it.

Poppon Summat, 19, spotted the tokay gecko crawl inside the square railing at his college this afternoon (June 15) at 1.30pm local time in Bangkok.

The inquisitive engineering apprentice followed the reptile and climbed on a stool to look inside. He started filming the creature as it cowered at the bottom of the rusty beam.

But the angry lizard suddenly spread its jaws to show its pink tongue - and scampered up the side at lightning speed before LEAPING at his nose.

The youngster escaped injury but said his ''heart leapt out of his skin'' as he jumped back after the incident.

He said: ''I was eating rice at lunch and went up to the technology department. I glanced over and saw the gecko's head. I walked over to take a video of it but the post was high, so I used a stool to stand on top.

''I couldn't see the lizard, because it was hiding at the bottom. Then it suddenly ran up at me. I thought 'OK, now I see you.'

''I couldn't believe what it did when it tried to bite me. It touched my face but the only reason it didn't get my nose was that I had my phone in front of me and I used it to protect myself.

''It really gave me a big shock. I jumped down from the chair. I was too scared to look inside again in case it did the same.''

++CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN LOOPED++
