In 1972 the two university students left Melbourne with a romantic plan to hitchhike up the east coast to surprise Robin’s mother in her home town of Bowen in Far North Queensland.<br />Robyn was found murdered and Anita vanished, but "psychic investigator" Ann Villiers claimed to know Anita had survived and assumed a new identity. Villiers even attempted to claim the $250,000 reward from police. But in our investigation Sunday Night reporter Alex Cullen interviewed the woman Villiers claims to be Anita Cunningham.<br />Robin was a prize-winning student from a poor farming family and Anita was a fellow design student and new housemate. They were missing for four months before Robin’s body was found under a bridge in remote outback Queensland – she had been shot twice in the head and her body dumped in a sandy creek bed. Neither girl touched their bank accounts or made contact with their families since leaving Melbourne. Many questions have remained about Anita's fate — did she survive? Was she murdered? Did she kill her friend and flee?<br />Despite police investigations, an inquest and a $250,000 reward, this case continues to mystify all who examine it.
