A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Osaka in western Japan just before 8 am on June 17, with at least three confirmed deaths recorded by noon local time.<br /><br />Among the casualties include one nine-year-old girl, who died when a wall collapsed on her at school.<br /><br />The earthquake halted train services, stranded rush hour commuters and left thousands in the region without power.
