A farmer climbed down a 40-feet well to rescue a peacock. <br /><br />People of a village near Bidar in South India noticed that the bird had fallen into the well on June 17. <br /><br />Two men got down the well to rescue it. But the peacock, which was injured and agitated, resisted by trying to peck at them as they got close.<br /><br />A local resident Ramu Khandre said: “Getting down the well itself was a risky business as it did not have steps. None dared to go down on a rope and bring up the highly agitated bird.”<br /><br />A local farmer Mohammed Jaffer, 36, volunteered to bring the bird up. <br /><br />He went down holding a rope and caught the bird, which had become a little weak by then. He secured it to another rope and climbed up, hauling the bird along with him. <br /><br />“The bird scratched my hand and made it bleed,” said Jaffer. <br /><br />He later took the bird to a vet to get it treated and handed it over to forest officials.
