Between 2007-2016, more than 11,200 poison control calls were made about children's exposure to buprenorphine.<br />According to CNN, that's a 215% rise in less than twenty years.<br />Buprenorphine is an opioid medication used to treat adults for opioid use disorder.<br />86% of the exposures were in children below the age of 6. 89% of the exposures were unintentional.<br />Another recent study that found the number of opioid overdoses among children had nearly doubled since 2004. <br />
