It Really Isn't a Good Idea to Watch Delayed World Cup Coverage in Buenos Aires

When the Argentinean soccer team plays, the nation largely grinds to a halt to watch. So it’s probably not a good idea to rely upon a delayed stream to keep up with any game involving Leo Messi and company.

Such was the case for Buenos Aires resident and musician El Carl on June 26 as the national team took on Nigeria in their final group game of the 2018 World Cup. With a win needed to advance to the second round, goals from Messi and Marcos Rojo saw the team win out 2-1, sparking scenes of celebration across the nation.

El Carl’s stream hadn’t yet caught up with live TV coverage when he began to hear a commotion outside his window as the city exploded with screams and other loud noises filled the city air. However, the Argentina fan wasn’t too upset considering the result.

He said, “I was watching the match online, so I have some delay against the people watching it on national TV. So I keep the window open so I can hear if Argentina scored, and I wasn’t disappointed.” Credit: El Carl via Storyful
