Heavy showers, strong winds to lash Korea until Tuesday

Our top story this morning.<br />The summer monsoon is bringing torrential rain to South Korea.... and heavy showers are expected throughout this Monday and into Tuesday.<br /> The Korea Meteorological Administration has heavy rain alerts in place for the Jeolla-do Provinces and parts of Gyeonggi-do Province.<br />Thunder, lightning and heavy rain of up to 30 millimeters an hour is in the forecast for the central region.<br />Torrential rains have been slamming the nation since Saturday, causing houses and rice paddies to flood and some rail services to be cancelled.<br />Hundreds of walking trails in 18 national parks have been closed as of Sunday.<br />Korea's national weather agency is also warning of the threat of flooding and landslides.<br />Making matters worse,... South Korea is also under the influence of Typhoon (pra-pee-roon) Prapiroon, a typhoon that formed near Japan's Okinawa Island a few days ago.<br /> Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon says the central and municipal governments will be on 24-hour emergency alert until the country is out of the typhoon's influence.<br />He said the government will share up-to-date information about the typhoon and promptly take measures to prevent damage. <br />
