<p>Syria’s state news agency, SANA, as well as a number of pro-Damascus accounts</a> and Arab news reports</a> said on July 6 that Syrian state forces and their allies had advanced as far as the town of al-Naima, a short distance east of Daraa city.</p><p>SANA’s report</a> called the advance “decisive progress towards ending the terrorist presence in the entire eastern countryside of the city.”</p><p>It said the town had been an important stronghold for al-Nusra rebels.
