<p>The Sunshine Coast Council on July 9 launched the NAIDOC Week in celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.</p><p>This video shows a welcome dance performed outside the council chamers in Nambour, Queensland.</p><p>The National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week started as a protest in 1920</a> and this year’s theme</a>, “Because of Her, We Can”, highlights the achievements of First Nation Australian women.</p><p>The council chambers</a> is built on the traditional country of the Kabi Kabi and Jinbara Peoples, whose tribes and languages are significant across the coastal plains and hinterlands.
