President Moon Jae-in has nominated a women's rights activist as the new chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.<br /> Choi Young-ae, the chief director of ‘Women's Human Rights Defenders,’ a non-profit organization seeking to improve rights for both South and North Korean women, was nominated by the Blue House to direct the nation's human rights watchdog.<br />She is the current chairperson of the ‘Human Rights Commission of Seoul. <br /> Her nomination was made amid growing public demand to better protect the rights of women and minorities.<br />Choi will be formally appointed after a parliamentary confirmation hearing. <br />
