<p>Italian cyclist Vincenzo Nibali was forced to abandon the Tour de France due to injuries he sustained after he crashed during stage 12 of the competition</a> in Huez on July 19.</p><p>Nibali, a Behrain-Merida team member, collided with spectators around 3.8 kilometres away</a> from the stage finish in Huez, France.</p><p>The Italian managed to rejoin the race and close the gap on the leaders but exited the Tour after learning the severity of his injuries.</p><p>Speaking to Italian media,</a> Bahrain-Merida team doctor Emilio Magni said the subsequent scan confirmed what they feared. “There’s a fracture of the T10 vertebra.
