Republicans Choose City for 2020 <br />Presidential Convention Republicans have voted to hold their 2020 presidential nominating convention in <br />Charlotte, North Carolina. Democrats held their nominating convention in Charlotte just six years ago in 2012. The Southern swing state is critical to Donald Trump’s chances of seeing a second term in the White House. North Carolina has also been a highly coveted prize for both the Republican and Democratic parties in recent elections. Democrat Barack Obama won the state’s 15 electoral votes in 2008, but Republicans captured it in 2012 <br />and 2016. The only other city that was seriously considered by the GOP to host the convention was <br />Las Vegas, Nevada.
