Two lucky holidaymakers witnessed the beauty of glowing plankton illuminating the waves whilst going for a night stroll on a beach in Devon. <br /><br />The phenomenon, called bioluminescence, is the result of plankton being disturbed, causing them to emit light through a complex chemical reaction.<br /><br />The filmer writes: ''We were taking a late night stroll in Devon when they spotted extraordinary flashes in the surf. <br /><br />''We threw stones to check what was happening. <br /><br />"When the ripples glowed fluorescent violet, we knew we were seeing something once-in-a-lifetime so we waded out into the flashing sea, as sparkling and glowing bright blue waves broke around us. <br /><br />"We were overcome by the beauty and just behaved like children! It was the most bewitching, spectacular thing to witness."<br /> <br />The clip was captured on July 22.
