Korea's heat wave has reduced mosquito population: KCDC

The string of extremely hot days has apparently reduced the number of mosquitoes carrying Japanese encephalitis by over 70 percent.<br /> The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the number of this particular breed of small, dark brown mosquitoes is down 71-point-four percent compared to last year.<br />Japanese encephalitis is not common in modern Korea, but it can be fatal and there are usually a couple of dozen cases a year.<br />The number of mosquitoes in general also dropped by two-point-two percent.<br />The KCDC says there are fewer of the pests because of the extreme heat and the short monsoon. <br />
