A special ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of the first memorial statue in a major U.S. city honoring Korean victims of Japan's wartime sexual slavery took place in Glendale, California on Tuesday. <br /> The Korean American Forum of California said people gathered to recall the meaning of the so-called "comfort women" statue and look back on a dark period in Korea's history. <br />The statue has faced strong opposition from Japan, which has tried to bring it down through letters, visits by Japanese politicians and a lawsuit that went to the U.S. Supreme Court. <br />
