A tractor driver’s daring effort to cross an overflowing river backfired as the strong current swept away the vehicle after turning it turtle.<br /><br />The driver, however, managed to escape and swim to safety.<br /><br />The incident occurred in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India, on July 29.<br /><br />The river Ravi was overflowing due to rains and submerged several roads in the hilly district stranding several vehicles.<br /><br />An impatient tractor driver decided to ride through the river instead of taking a longer route.<br /><br />But he had underestimated the strength of the current, which swept the vehicle away and toppled it. The man, however, managed to swim to safety.<br /><br />A local police official said: “The tractor was mining sand illegally and was desperate to get away quickly. Many drivers risk their lives to transport their contraband in the rainy season.”
