<p>A forest fire continued to burn in the Portuguese tourist region of the Algarve on Wednesday, August 8, for a sixth consecutive day</a>.</p><p>High winds hampered efforts to control the blaze in Monchique, in northwestern Algarve, according to Portuguese newspaper Publico</a>.</p><p>Patricia Gaspar, the deputy national operational commander for Civil Protection, told the newspaper</a> the fire continued to present “great complexity” and “extremely aggressive behaviour.”</p><p>More than 1,200 firefighters remained at the scene to tackle the wildfire, which prompted the evacuation of at least 230 people.</p><p>This footage shows the red sky beyond a highway near Monchique in the district of Faro as the fire burned.
