Korea's leading ballet dancers have come together to perform the Song of the Mermaid, a fantasy ballet inspired by the timeless fairy tale, 'A Little Mermaid.'<br />The production opened Friday evening in Western Seoul for a three day run,... choreographed by globally acclaimed dancer and director Kim Sun-hee.<br /><br /><br />"The first part takes place in an imaginary world under the sea -- so I wanted to give off the air of sea life and creatures beneath Korea's Dokdo Island, or the East Sea. The second part is a western story, but I tried to convey a slightly Korean atmosphere in all the movements and actions."<br /><br />The production has been staged since 2001, and features Korea's up and coming ballet dancers -- most of whom have won prestigious international prizes.<br />This year's line up includes ballerinas Lee Soo-bin and Park Seon-mi who will share the role of the mermaid,... while the prince will be played by Lee Sang-min and Yang Jun-young.<br />The ballet will also be performed in New York City in late October. <br />
