New Telescope to Track Down Earth’s ‘Mini-Moons’ Scientists published their findings of "mini-moons" in the journal Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Science. But what exactly are mini-moons? Researchers say they are tiny asteroids that get snatched up in<br />the earth's orbit. So far, scientists have only observed one. The space rocks are too small for current technologies to track down. These objects are only between 1 to 2 meters in size. Researchers are hoping a new telescope will make finding mini-moons much easier. It is called the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. The LSST can track short-term objects in the sky. Studying them will give scientists a better understanding of the origins of asteroids.
