Plane drops retardant on Gorge Fire in Shasta County

Firefighters battled a 75-acre brush fire near Platina in Shasta County, California, on August 19.<br /><br />According to local media, the fire started at around 7:30 am off Highway 36 west around Beegum Gorge Road.<br /><br />In the afternoon, it was reported that the fire was 20 percent contained and that forward spread had been stopped. As of an update around 2 pm, road closures, including for Highway 36, remained in place.
