South Korea on alert as Typhoon Soulik arrives

2018-08-24 15 Dailymotion

Typhoon Soulik dropped more than one-thousand millimeters of rain on Jeju Island's mountainous regions over the past 24 hours or so.
Seoul is bracing for showers and gusty winds, but as we mentioned the typhoon is losing steam in terms of its power... and will probably be downgraded to a tropical storm by the local weather agency before too long.
For a look at the weather for the entire country, let's speak to our Lee Jee-hyun who's standing at the weather center for us. Jee-hyun fill us in.

Typhoon Soulik dropped heavy showers in Jeollanam-do Province and it's gradually heading to Chungcheong-do Province. The typhoon is losing its strength while it travels in a northeast direction. We can tell the path is taking a more southerly course that expected, it's very likely to move out from the country around 11 AM or noon near Gangneung. The closest time Typhoon approaches Seoul will be around 8 AM this morning.... in less than an hour.

Typhoon alerts are in place for the entire nation, warnings are in place for southwest regions and waters off Jeju, parts of south and west sea.

Northeast regions, including Gangneung and Chuncheon, will see heavier showers, while the weather agency has re-announced that the capital could see about 10 millimeters showers, but winds will be around 14 meters per second.. that's 50 kilometers an hour.

Daily highs will range from 29 to 33 degrees, southwest regions will see nicer weather before noon. The entire nation will have calm weather by the evening.

That's all for now, stay safe...back to you Mark in the studio.
