Regarding the government's proposal to reform the national pension system, President Moon Jae-in pointed out, reaching a social consensus to change the program is indispensable. <br /><br /> "The National Pension belongs to the people. So, the most important element in reforming the pension system is reaching a social consensus."<br /><br /> The remark was made during a weekly meeting with top aides, amid rising speculation among the public... the funds could be depleted by 2057,... a claim made by an advisory panel of the public pension a couple of weeks ago.<br />While raising premiums is inevitable, the South Korean leader called for efforts to ease public anxiety.<br />Stressing the system is managed by the country itself he provided reassurance, that "as long as the nation exists, there can never be a case where one cannot collect his or her payments after paying the insurance premiums."<br /> Moon also highlighted, one of the most important objectives of revising the system... is to strengthen the income of senior citizens, especially those above the age of 65. <br />
