A government proposal on the issue is ready to roll,... but President Moon Jae-in admits it's crucially important to reach a broad social consensus on how to change the national pension system before making any moves.<br /><br /> "The National Pension belongs to the people. So, the most important element in reforming the pension system is reaching a social consensus."<br /><br /> The president made the remark on Monday during a weekly meeting with his top aides.<br />There are concerns the funds could be depleted by 2057,... a claim made by an advisory panel a couple of weeks ago.<br />While raising premiums is seen as inevitable, the president called for efforts to ease public anxiety.<br />He said "as long as the nation exists, there can never be a case where one cannot collect his or her payments after paying the insurance premiums."<br /> President Moon also highlighted, one of the most important objectives of revising the system... is to shore up income for senior citizens. <br />
