According to Reuters, civil unrest is growing in Basra.<br />The southern Iraqi city is home to 2 million residents, but in recent months the municipal water supply has become contaminated with salt.<br />Power outages have also made conditions in the city difficult for it's residents, as the summer heat has routinely reached over 40 degrees Celsius.<br />On Sept. 7th, disgruntled protesters stormed the Iranian consulate, and the water treatment plant at a nearby oilfield. <br />
