<p>A high school student in Westerville, Ohio, got the chance to perform a rap he created inspired by the young adult novel The Hate U Give, during a meeting the book’s author.</p><p>The novel raises issues linked to police shootings and the Black Lives Matter movement.</p><p>In a video shared by Alisa Wimberly to Twitter on September 13, Josiah Oyortey can be seen speaking to author Angie Thomas for a moment before breaking into his performance. Thomas appears impressed with the rap, which focused on the struggles of Black Americans, and stood up to give Oyortey a handshake when he was finished to the cheers of his classmates.
