Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge sets new marathon world record in Berlin

Kenya's Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has set a new world record, winning Sunday's Berlin marathon in 2 hours, 1 minute and 39 seconds.<br /> The 33-year-old managed to shave off a staggering 78 seconds off the previous record set by fellow Kenyan Dennis Kimetto four years ago. <br />Kipchoge is widely seen as the greatest marathon runner of the modern era.<br />He has won 10 of the 11 marathons he has competed in, and also won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.<br />In another victory for Kenyan athletics, Gladys Cherono won the women's race in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 11 seconds, setting a new women's record for the course in Berlin. <br />
