South and North Korean leaders conclude first of two meetings in Pyeongyang

After President Moon arrived in North Korea to great fanfare at a Pyeongyang airport,... he sat down for talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.<br />Although the exact details of their discussion remain unclear,... we did get to hear some of their initial exchanges.<br />Our Cha Sang-mi reports from the main press center in Seoul. <br /> President Moon Jae-in was greeted warmly again by the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as he got out of the car to enter the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. <br /> "Through peace and prosperity, the hearts of the people become one "<br />That's what President Moon Jae-in wrote in the visitor's log of the building.<br /> The bilateral summit started at 3:45 pm, Korea standard time.<br />President Moon was joined by two of his top aides -- his national security advisor Chung Eui-yong and Suh Hoon, the Director of the National Intelligence Service.<br />On the North Korean side, Kim Jong-un was accompanied by his younger sister Kim Yo-jong, who is the First Vice Department Director of the Central Committee, and Kim Yong-chol, the Director of North Korea's United Front Department.<br /><br /> "Inter-Korean and North Korea-U.S. ties have improved. President Moon, you lit the fire of the historic North Korea-U.S. summit."<br /><br />Ahead of Chuseok, the major harvest holiday in both Koreas, President Moon said he hoped the Pyeongyang summit will be the start of a joyous celebration.<br /> <br /> "I feel burdened by the responsibility we have gathered for. I hope the results of this summit will serve as the best Chuseok gift for 80 million of our people, awaiting the holiday." . . 8 . <br /><br /> "The South Korean President expressed his wish for an outcome of peace and prosperity for the world, and said the entire international community is keeping close tabs on the summit.<br />Cha Sang-mi, Arirang News." <br />
