Bali Landfill Fire Burns for Days, Emitting Pungent Gas

<p>A fire that had burned at a major landfill in Denpasar, the provincial capital of Indonesia’s tourist island Bali, since Monday, September 24, continued to send pungent gas into the sky.</p><p>The fire was reportedly caused</a> by methane gas at the Suwung landfill.</p><p>Residents complained</a> about the awful smell from the gas, which could cause breathing problems for people in the area.</p><p>The smoke also blanketed Ngurah Rai Bypass Road, the island’s major thoroughfare, prompting</a> traffic jam, especially between Kuta and Sanur.
