Korea's oceans ministry opens 'return-to-sea schools' to cultivate new workforce

Some people in Korea are choosing to move away from cities and return to farms or fishing villages.<br />To help these people and provide new opportunities, the oceans ministry has opened the nation's first "return-to-sea school."<br />Park Se-young has more. <br /> This man had operated cranes at a shipyard for the last ten years, …until his company closed down.<br />In search for a new way of life, he went to a so-called "return-to-sea school."<br />After about two months of theoretical education and hands-on learning with onsite experts, the former shipyard worker now looks more like a fisherman.<br />The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has opened Korea's first "return-to-sea school" to help people settle in fishing villages, and has attracted 21 people aged from in their 20s to in their 60s.<br />The students can choose their desired field after experiencing a range of options like fishing, fish farming and fish processing.<br /><br /> "By providing hands-on training and in-depth education, we can help people succeed and reduce the probability of failure."<br /><br /> Following the first school in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, two more schools are set to open in Chungcheongnam-do Province and Jeollanam-do Province.<br />The schools aim to provide more people with new opportunities and bring energy to aging fishing villages.<br />Park Se-young, Arirang News. <br />
