These brave teachers have to float down whitewater rapids just to reach their classes on time.

The staff teach pupils at a school for indigenous youngsters in the remote village of Libacao in the Aklan region of the Philippines.

They have to wade through 14 stretches of water before they arrive at the school.

But when the rivers are flowing dangerously fast after heavy downpours, the teachers need to don waterproof suits and put their paperwork in plastic zip bags to stay dry.

Footage taken on September 19 shows the teachers climbing into the river before being washed away downstream and swimming to the bank on the opposite side.

Teacher Raquel Florentino said that the river in the video is just the FIFTH crossing - and they had to paddle through another NINE before reaching the school.

She said: ''Aklan river has very strong currents even on a normal day. We really need guides to avoid accidents. We always have bruises. Our nails always get chipped off.

The first time I went here, my feet were so sore. But all I can do was sleep it off while crying because we still have classes the next day. Time is important to these kids who can't regularly go to school.''

Raquel said she had to be at the bus stop near her home which takes them to the nearest town.

From there they will ride motorbikes which will bring them to the foot of the mountain where they will start their trekking.

They then cross a total of 14 rivers, which are normally calm enough to paddle through but sometimes they have to float down.

The total journey takes them about four hours.
