The Senate has voted 51 to 49 to close debate on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.<br />Broadcasting Cable reports the voted paved the way for a senate confirmation vote.<br />The vote on his nomination will take place on Saturday.<br />The vote came after impassioned speeches from both sides.<br />Democrats said Kavanaugh was unfit for the seat.<br />Republicans saying he had been the subject of a hit job planned by Democrats from the outset.<br />Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel (R-Ky.) called it a disgraceful spectacle.<br />He characterized the various allegations of sexual misconduct as a "Keystone Cops" operation. <br />
