Demonstrators gathered at locations across the country on Monday. October 8, to protest the Trump administration’s proposed plan to privatize the nation's postal services.<br /><br />With the slogan “The U.S. mail is not for sale,” United States Postal Services (USPS) employees and community members took the streets in over a hundred cities. This video, filmed by Montserrat Garibay, shows the demonstration in Austin, Texas.<br /><br />Earlier in the year, Trump issued an executive order to study the possibility of restructuring the business model of the postal services, which he said was necessary to prevent a “taxpayer-funded bailout.” USPS has reported steady losses over the years, with the last time it made a profit being over a decade ago.<br /><br />USPS employs 7.5 million people across the country, according to the American Postal Workers Union.
