After exceeding safeguard quota, washing machines imported to U.S. face 50 percent tariffs

As of this month, all residential washing machines imported to the U.S. will be subject to heavier tariffs.<br />Washer imports to the U.S. will now be subject to 50-percent tariffs after exceeding the import quota of one-point-two-million units.<br />Last February, the U.S. imposed a safeguard tariff-rate quota for washers, with imports under the quota subject to 20-percent tariffs and imports above the quota subject to the higher tariff rate of 50-percent.<br />Imports of washer parts also exceeded their quota of fifty-thousand in July and are now also subject to fifty percent tariffs. <br />
