China to Launch World's <br />First 'Artificial Moon' China's space industry is planning <br />to put an artificial moon into orbit <br />over the city of Chengdu by 2020. The moon has a planned orbit <br />of 310 miles above the earth. Acting as a nightlight, the <br />artificial moon would shine <br />eight time brighter <br />the earth's natural moon. A special coating <br />on the artificial moon It's estimated to save <br />the city $174 million dollars <br />a year in electricity costs. The moon could also be <br />used to illuminate disaster <br />areas during blackouts. If the artificial moon is <br />successful, three more <br />are planned for launch in 2022.
