Commemorative events will be held in Seoul and the Chinese city of Harbin on Friday to mark the day Korean patriot Ahn Jung-geun assassinated a Japanese politician as part of the resistance against Japanese colonialism.<br /> On October 26th, 1909 at a train station in Harbin, China, patriot Ahn shot the Japanese supervisor of Korea ( )Ito Hirobumi, who had played a major part in Japan's annexation of Korea in the 1900s.<br />Ahn's move was aimed at helping Korea regain its sovereignty and independence.<br />Ahn was imprisoned and put to death in 1910. His famous essay "On Peace in East Asia" remains unfinished. <br />
