Twenty-seven people were arrested in Stellenbosch, South Africa, Monday after illegal youth protests turned violent. <br /><br />The footage shows protesters throwing garbage, allegedly in front of a municipal building. <br /><br />"Action was taken to disperse the crowd. Protesters damaged windows of the shops in the shopping centres in the area," police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana told South Africa's News 24. <br /><br />Police responded to the chaos with rubber bullets and flash bangs, according to the filmer. "The crowd has now calmed down but tension is still high," the filmer added.
