Brian Kemp Steps Down as
Georgia's Secretary of State The Republican holds a narrow lead in Georgia's governor race over Democratic opponent Stacey Abrams. The race remains too close to call following Tuesday night's election. Kemp's resignation comes despite
not officially being called the winner. He has declared victory but Abrams has not yet conceded. As more ballots are currently being counted, Abrams' deficit has neared a threshold
required for a recount, as well as the level needed for a
runoff election. Under Georgia law, a candidate must have more than 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff. As of now, Kemp leads Abrams
50.3 to 48.7.
