<br /> According to Reuters, a sheriff's deputy is among the dead after a gunman assaulted a Southern California bar.<br />Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said the gunman killed 12 people at the Borderline Bar and Grill before apparently shooting himself.<br />Sergeant Ron Helus, who served with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for 29 years, was shot by the gunman while entering the bar to confront him.<br />He died after being taken to a local hospital. <br />
