U.S. President Donald Trump has put pen to paper on a proclamation suspending the entry of migrants through America's southern border with Mexico for 90 days.
President Trump said the measures were necessary to prepare for the arrival of thousands of Central Americans traveling in groups through Mexico toward the U.S. border.
He said the caravan has no "lawful basis for admission into the U.S."
U.S. officials say the proclamation does not apply to unaccompanied children or those who apply at official border crossings, or U.S. ports of entry.
The measures are to take effect on Saturday, U.S. time.
