A new report shows only three other companies in the world.... spend more on research and development than Samsung Electronics.<br />Samsung was also the only South Korean corporation to be named a high-level innovator by a global auditor.<br />Choi Si-young reports. <br /><br />According to a report released by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, Samsung Electronics is the fourth largest R&D spender among a thousand global companies.<br />Its 2018 Global Innovation report ranks companies' R&D investment as a percentage of sales for a year from last July to June this year.<br /><br />Samsung Electronics invested a total of 15-point-three billion U.S. dollars during that period. <br />That was almost seven percent of the tech firm's revenue... and an on-year increase of six-point-eight percent.<br />Amazon topped the list with R&D spending of 22-point-six billion dollars or 12-point-seven percent of its revenue, up more than 40 percent on-year.<br />The U.S. e-commerce giant was followed by Google's parent company Alphabet and German automaker Volkswagen.<br /><br />In the same PricewaterhouseCoopers report, Samsung Electronics was ranked sixth in a list of high-level global innovators.<br /> Apple, Amazon and Alphabet were the top three for the second consecutive year.<br />Choi Si-young, Arirang News. <br />
