Man's beer belly was actually 77-pound cancerous tumor

DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA — A man who for years was teased by his friends for his "beer belly" is now walking around minus a 100 pounds after finding out it was actually a cancerous tumor. <br />According to CBS Los Angeles, 47-year-old Hector Hernandez noticed that something was wrong in July of this year. <br />For years his belly had been getting bigger, but this arms and legs kept getting smaller. <br /><br />Hernandez finally went to get a CT scan, which revealed a retroperitoneal liposarcoma, a cancer that begins in the fat cells around the abdomen. <br /><br /><br />According to Dr. William Tseng, a surgical oncologist at USC's Keck School of Medicine, these types of tumors are usually 20 to 30 pounds, but Hernandez's had grown to be a whopping 77-pounds. <br /><br />Hernandez was tipping the scales at 300 when he went in for surgery. After a six hour procedure, he came out 100 pounds lighter. <br />Doctors are going to keep a close eye on Hernandez, but at least for now he is cancer free.
