On Tuesday, Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith defeated Democrat Mike Espy in the Mississippi Senate race.<br />The race has been defined by the Republican's racially-charged comments.<br />Hyde-Smith's runoff victory in the last midterm race of 2018.<br />She took 54% of the vote to Espy's 46%.<br />It was far from the definitive victory many Republicans hoped for.<br />Mississippi is a Deep Red state. But the slim, 8% difference makes it seem more Purple. <br />
