A peacock was attacked by a dog several weeks ago in southern India, necessitating a lengthy recovery culminating in a two-hour surgery yesterday (December 2). <br /><br />At a village near the city of Salem in Karnataka, people rushed out after hearing the peacock's painful screams, finding it in a pool of blood. The villagers put mud on the peacock’s as a local way to reduce pain and called the forest department. <br /><br />Within 30 minutes officials reached the spot and took the peacock to a veterinary hospital, where doctors did a through check up and found that it required surgery. The peacock was then finally shifted to Amulya Veterinary hospital in Salem. <br /><br />After two weeks, the surgery was successfully completed, with the operation taking almost two hours. After fully recovering the peacock will be released back into the forest.
