Authorities rescued 12 commuters stuck in strong gales on a highway in Xinjiang, an autonomous region in the northwest of China, during a a major dust storm on December 1.<br /><br />The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday as local police dispatched emergency workers to the scene, the entire operation taking up to seven hours.<br /><br />The massive dust storm brought the region to a standstill over the weekend. According to local media, visibility was less than two meters at the height of the storm.
