Microplastics Found
in Every Sea Turtle
of New Study The study was conducted by
researchers at the University of
Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory. Researchers examined
the bodies of more
than 100 sea turtles
of all seven species. Turtles from the Atlantic,
Pacific and Mediterranean
were included in the studies. Researchers found
more than 800 synthetic
particles in the turtles' gut. They estimate that the
actual number of particles
in the turtles' entire body
could be 20 times that amount. Pennie Lindeque, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, via CNN The most common materials
found were bits of tires,
cigarettes, clothing
and marine equipment. It's estimated that
there are more than
5 trillion pieces of plastic
in the world's surface waters.
