China moving to cut U.S. car tariffs: report

China has reportedly proposed cutting tariffs on American-made cars as Washington and Beijing continue trade talks. <br />For more on this and other news around the world we turn to our Ro Aram…<br />Aram… does this mean we are seeing some progress in the U.S.-China trade talks?<br /><br />Well Mark… it's hard to tell at the moment…<br />President Trump said this month that China would cut the tariffs after a meeting with his Chinese counterpart at the G20 summit in Argentina.<br />Bloomberg also reported Tuesday that China's cabinet will review the proposal in the coming days.<br />The plan reportedly involves reducing tariffs on American-made cars from 40 percent to 15 - the same tax levied on car imports from other countries.<br />However, Bloomberg noted that nothing has been finalized and that the proposal could change. <br />Washington and Beijing are yet to confirm the report.<br />But, President Trump tweeted that trade talks were productive and teased what he called some "important announcements"<br />China's commerce ministry also confirmed both sides had spoken, saying they are working on a "timetable and road map for the next stage of economic and trade consultations work."<br />The report provided a boost to carmakers, with American and European auto stocks rising. <br />
