Civil activist group Sunfull Foundation launches movement to tackle hate speech

Online hate speech is a serious social problem that could result in devastating consequences. <br />A local civil activist group held an event in Seoul today to try and raise awareness of the issue. <br /> Yoon Jung-min has the details.<br /> <br /> Cyberbullying and online hate speech have been emerging as social issues not only in Korea but around the world.<br />South Korean civil activist group the Sunfull Foundation is working to tackle online hate speech and malicious comments.<br />Some 300 participants,... including citizens and politicians... attended the foundation's event in Seoul on Saturday to declare their will to prevent hate crimes and discrimination by tackling hate speech.<br /> Participants said they hope the event will serve to promote “positive energy” among the public.<br /><br /> "Hate speech and cyberbullying with the intention of spreading hatred and discrimination against minorities is a serious crimes that infringes on human rights. Now is the time to eradicate all forms of hate speech that escalate discrimination against race, religion, human origin, or even appearance."<br /><br /> The Sunfull Foundation was started in 2007.<br />More than 7-thousand schools in Korea, politicians and citizens world-wide have joined the movement so far.<br />Yoon Jung-min, Arirang News. <br />
